Carrie Ekey is an internationally known educational consultant specializing in literacy instruction, assessment, and curriculum. She is a former elementary classroom teacher, grades 1 through 6, demonstration classroom teacher, staff developer, and curriculum specialist from Jefferson County Public School District in the Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. Her undergraduate degree was from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado and her graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction was earned from the University of Colorado at Denver. Carrie formerly served as the Core Coordinator and Instructor in the language arts area of a masters program at Regis University where she taught courses in curriculum and instruction. Her work as a consultant for the Colorado Writing Project is just one of the areas where she has conducted workshops on reading and writing workshop and literacy instructional strategies. She has also been a consultant of the Colorado Critical Friends project in supporting schools in developing professional learning communities.
In her "retirement" she has consulted in a number of international schools in the area of reading and writing assessment, instruction, and curriculum in Asia, Europe, and the Middle East regions. She has served as a literacy consultant in residence at the International School of Beijing and now at Hong Kong International School. What Carrie is most passionate about is supporting the curiosity and learning of children through the professional learning of teachers.
